I have a bunch of 1930s and 1940s Mercury dimes and I was curious about full bands on the coins. From the picture shown here, is that considered full bands?  Thanks, just trying to get a good understanding of it. |

I as well as others say all 3 bands, Top, Middle and Bottom must be split with no interruptions .  |

I don't agree with the "cuts and marks" aspect of these designations. It's supposed to indicate how well struck it was, not whether it got a random hit afterwards.

There has been discussions in the past as to exactly how clear those bands should be. The one shown here in that post with a photo from PCGS is rather an almost perfect one. Most of them even in high MS grades tend to be a bit lesser in quality and clarity. Yet where does it become a really FSB coin? I have many in my FSB set that are close to all but some area a bit vague too.

FBL on Franklins follow the same standards. If there is a cut across the bands, its not Full Split Bands. Otherwise, you could just scratch up that area and make a coin pass that otherwise wouldn't. If you disagree, fine. You can be the highest buyer of damaged Mercs on the market. That doesn't make you any more right.
