Thanks for sharing !
These are in very nice condition. It seems difficult to find these in such condition unlike US or European coinage. As a newbie collector of 8s I view the strike on many to be weaker on average. Keep'em coming.

Nice! I really like the pillar type 8R.  Someday I want to study the Colonials so I can collect. Btw, did you notice the apparent digit under the 1763--a 2 perhaps?  Common or not?  |

KurtS- good eye. Die varieties were so common on 8s, but I must admit that I am not familiar with this overdate. hmmm

KurtS...good eye. Yes that is a 1763/2 MoMM and it is a rare overdate. There are at least 4 varieties of 63/2 overdate (there are also 63/1 overdates) , determined by assayer mark (either MM or MF) and with or without lower crown arc. In higher grades, they are all very hard to find. I liked this one because of the high grade and really obvious overdate. The pillar series is full of overdates, re-engraved dies, and other oddball things. Part of the fun. I have a great pillar from Lima Peru that has "Hispan" spelled wrong and escaped the watchful eye of the mint master. In the 3 coins in this thread, the first 2 are rare date/ assayer combinations. I put in the 1764 because I love the edge tone (gun metal blue) but it didn't show up well on the scan.

I have a question about the coat of arms. I have noticed that the bottom right castle overhangs the bottom right corner of the shield. Was this common? I am just wondering since I have seen some which do overhang and some which do not.

Archraz, I just looked through my entire date run from 1733 to 1771 (the joy of a scanned collection) and found only 3 that didn't intrude on to or at least touch the shield outline.
