Quote:Trying to find the highest NRI in Numista, this is the best I got: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces112669.html Numista Rarity Index is a poor indicator of overall rarity. It only refers to the rarity among Numista members. I have 50 or so coins with an NRI of 97, which means only 1 Numista member owns the coin. There are many coins with NRI of 100. There are also goofballs who claim to have the coin but don;t. But I digress. Here is another one where it is the only example to have changed hands in the open market in at least the last 25 years, and may be unique: https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=l...69&lot=24008An interesting tidbit is there are more $1 million-plus coins from Poland (2) than any other European country.

For a modern coin:- the 2012 Perth Mint One Million Dollar one ton gold coin is unique, - and the most valuable as well, at nearly $600 million dollars of .9999 fine gold. Still not enough to buy a B2 bomber. So the bullion stackers beat the numismatists !

Here is another unique coin, just entered in the Numista catalog, not even in KM or Friedberg: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces353746.htmlApparently it was mentioned and described in a decree from 1619, but all the catalogs covering Liege had it listed as "never found."

If they exist, the 1866 quarter and half dollar without motto. Easily multimillion dollar coins if one ever turned up. One of the 1866 dollars without motto sold for $1.2 million back in 2005.

Because I love Morgan dollars ... the 1893S. It is reasonably available in the market, in mint state it is rare / valuable.

I just remembered another coin that, if real, would be worth a pretty penny... 1895 Philadelphia circulation strike Morgan dollar. 12,000 were supposedly made according to mint records but none have ever turned up. Keep in mind coins like the 1884 and 1885 Trade dollars weren't included in mint reports but they were discovered years after the fact.

This is my rarest coin. A slin coin from Cambodia, featuring Hamsa bird, cross and circle. I was battling to even find a picture of another one on the internet. Anyone else own one?

A bit like the wide mouthed frog "you don't see many of those around these parts"I have read about them, though these were referred to as fuong, and sleng (slin?) I think. If you haven't seen the article it is titled The Coinage of North Cambodia (accessed through JSTOR) Just saw this on ebay, but it's maybe a modern copy?..your thoughts. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/155297962985edit: I was just on Numista and found an exact copy of your coin! ....then noticed the Triggersmob copyright....d'oh

The last Elsen auction (Brussels) featured Part 2 of a collection of the coins of the Principality of Liege. I started counting how many coins in that auction were the one and only known example, and stopped after five. One of them was a type completely unknown to collectors until the single example turned up in 2010: https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=l...694&lot=1002No bids at an opening bid of 2400 euros. Chump change for such a rare coin
