For 1660, here is a copper jeton from Antwerp featuring Philippe IV, king of Spain on the obverse; the reverse symbolizes the peace agreement of the Pyrennees (peace between Spain and France)  below a painting showing the peace agreement (mid nov 1659) organized on the tiny Pheasant Island (in the middle of the Bidasoa River on the border between France and Spain. The key moment was Louis XIV of France and Philippe IV of Spain shaking hands  |

This 2 Albus from the German Archbishopric of Cologne is in better condition than that last Solidas I posted. It is dated (16)59 AD:   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

Due to some unexpectedly busy days covering up the 1658-56 transition for me, I'm posting a coin from 1657 today. ...I really hoped not to resort to that, but we were still on 1658 last time I checked and then I was busy for a while.   Elbing, Swedish occupation of Carl X Gustav (r. 1654-60) AR (billon) solidus, 1657 Obverse: CAROL GVST D G R, monogram of Carl X in central circle Reverse: SOLIDVS PRVSSIAE 57, arms of Elbing in central circle KM# 65 ("rare"), Kopicki 9655 (R7, estimated 4-6 examples known) Numista 96629 (unaccountably merged with a different type - and rarity 94 even then) |
