sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 03/18/2023 9:22 pm Acetone will remove just about any organic based glue. Problem is that most glues have sulfur in their formulation, and this reacts chemically with the zinc coating at the glue / coin interface. Expect to find dark or very dark patches on coin where this reaction has taken place. Steel pennies are zinc coated; zinc is a very reactive sacrificial metal, and that is why the steel core was originally protected the zinc coating. Zinc sacrificial anodes are attached to the hull of steel ships around the prop shaft gland, to sacrificially prevent corrosion in this area.. Report this Post to the Staff

If it was just place on there and has been in room temperature and not in sunlight for morebthan a month you you should be okay. My mother when alive believed she was doing me a favor by taping the pennies and writing the dates on the tape. Ugh... it ruins the coin. Report this Post to the Staff
