Technically the bicentennial coins count as "commems struck more than one year" as they were struck in 1975 and 1976 with the same date

unless we are talking about the one dollar Ike coin - the type one was minted in 1975 and the type 2 was minted in 1976.

A mysterious "One Year Only" coin from France - a 1993 half-franc.

When I got this coin in change 31 years ago I immediately realised there was something different about it - but I couldn't immediately tell what it was. Then I realised that it is missing the two privy marks - for the Monnaie de Paris and the Chief Engraver - that normally appear to the left and right of the value on the reverse.

I was very excited at first and thought I might have a rare error - but no, all 1993 French half-francs are like this. Why? I don't know. Someone once wrote to the French coin magazine, Monnaie Magazine, to ask why 1993 half-francs have this peculiarity. The response was that the Monnaie de Paris simply forgot to put them on!

This seems unlikely, since surely all reverse dies were produced from the same hub, with new date numerals being added as required. But if it is true, then all 1993 French half-francs are error coins!
