bryan10au Pillar of the Community Australia 3306 Posts	Posted 10/15/2023 11:01 pm Hi all I was going through some of my late fathers coins on the weekend and found a 1944 penny that is smaller than a standard penny and was just wondering if anyone had any idea why it would be. Basil Pillar of the Community Australia 1040 Posts	Posted 10/16/2023 5:59 pm Back in the 1960's in Australia smarties were grinding down pennies to the size of a florin for the poker machines and the later 20c machines. I can understand why people used to clip gold and silver coins but bronze isn't really a precious medal. However grinding them down and using them for poker machines makes sense but not sure my coin would have worked as Basil said it is a crude job and it's not round.
