Die Chips On Roosevelt Dimes? Is This A Known Repeating Issue?

Djrev757 Valued Member United States 131 Posts	Posted 03/13/2024 5:11 pm Hello, ive been checking out some dime I have saved in my dime jar since its getting full and decided to go though to reduce. Ive noticed a lot (about 5-6 more than the pics) of the dimes have the exact (in a sense) die chip on the crest of the mouth. Is this a know repeating issue with the Philly mint as they are all philly and in the same spot. I'm not an experienced trader but from what I understand its impossible for the die for 2006 to be reused for the 2009 2010, 2017, 2020, 2021 2023 right? Or would this be just a random chance that they have the same chip in the same spot 20 decades apart in succession? Tanman2001 Pillar of the Community United States 4408 Posts	Posted 03/13/2024 5:50 pm Yes, die chips are incredibly common in that spot. It seems that the mouth is a weak spot on the die and fractures fairly easily. You will also commonly see die chips and cracks on the eyebrow, the nose, and the hair northwest of the ear (some of your examples also have breaks in those areas as well). When the reverse die cracks, that is almost always where the crack begins. The initials FS are also a very common spot for a die chip. Like clockwork.
