1862 Half-Penny Help (Which OBV Variety)

Djrev757 Valued Member United States 131 Posts	Posted 10/14/2024 1:04 pm Hello, I have today off so decided to spend it labeling my unlabeled coins. can't quite figure out which obv variety this one is. If anyone can help narrow down with obv/rev match this one is that would be helpful =) The letters I'm 99.999% sure is MD (im no expert) so don't think they have anything to do with which variety it is? I'm more so focused on the leaf tips in the hair, 1 is weakly struck and they are pointing slightly different that my other. Report this Post to the Staff

Djrev757 Valued Member United States 131 Posts	Posted 10/14/2024 6:33 pm Ahhh thank you very much =) I did not know if the lettering was a part of another die variety as the G is the only common issue with mine and those listed as the normal variety. But I assumed the rest was just PMD/MD or something like that as none of the other die pairs have it. I appreciate yall looking at it for me, ill now have to figure out if they are in fact die repairs or MD. Report this Post to the Staff
PaddyB Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 945 Posts	Posted 10/15/2024 03:33 am I would say the restruck letters are all die repairs. The faded leaf above Victoria and the broken detail below the trident are typical of an older die due to die-fill or damage. I have two 1862 7+G halfpennies and one shows very similar defects, but without the restruck letters. Report this Post to the Staff

It being a normal die pairing and with the die repairs/MD/PMD ill likely toss it in with the other 1862s and keep the nicer looking one in my PC. Thanks again everyone you've helped a lot.
