Hey you'll, just looking for opinions of this is a DDO-001 or 002. From what I researched, the "doubling" is more of a large L over a small L in the ribbon, that's how it's listed in indianhead varieties. And this coin does look to have something under the L in the ribbon, thoughts

The Longacre "L" looks to be doubled. Above the last 9 in the date, it looks like just above the 9 there is a arch like you see in 1869/9 coins. I think 1909 was the first year that the master dies got the date stamped in them. I am not sure about that, but I think Rick Snow mentioned it in his book.

Hey man, thanks. I didn't even notice the arch above the 9. It's definitely there, could it be a previously unknown RPM? There are no listings for either a RPM or MPD for this date, only DDO. That's very interesting. It's a nice "woodie" too, the planchet material wasn't mixed thoroughly. Thanks for the reassurance.

Looks like the coin may be suffering from environmental damage.

Can't be a re-punched mint mark (RPM), there is no mint mark on this coin.

And it's a bit dirty, but no damage, and little wear, AU condition all day.

And the environmental damage you are seeing is what I explained earlier as a "Woody", improper alloy mixture, it makes the planchets appear like grains of wood, found in Indian Head and Wheaties. There are actually collectors that pay a premium for this condition, not many but there are some.
