2026 American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coin Available May 7, 2026
2026, May 7
US Mint - The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the 2026 American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coin on May 7 at noon EDT. For the first 24 hours following the on-sale time, orders will be limited to one coin per household. To commemorate the Semiquincentennial of our Nation's founding, this special one-year-only American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin bears the dates "1776 ~ 2026" and a unique Liberty Bell privy mark with the numeral "250." The obverse (heads) portrays James Earle Fraser's profile representation of a Native American with the inscription "LIBERTY." The reverse (tails) features an American Buffalo and the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "$50," "1 OZ.," and ".9999 FINE GOLD." If you have to ask, you cannot afford it.

@Boba Debt You can get a pretty good idea by looking at the pricing grid and last year's current price $5600. With the recent volatility in gold, I'm sure they are waiting for the Wednesday pricing update to list a price.

Looks awesome, but I'll have to pass, due to the cost.

The Mint has the 24 & 25 Gold Buffaloes listed at $5590 - That might be a starting point for cost.

I prefer the larger proof fields of the gold eagle rather than the buffalo. But I do have one proof buffalo, a 2006 and a 2013 reverse proof buffalo I like a lot. Got both before spot prices went crazy high.

Mint posted its price today, $5,540. I'm not buying one anyway.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but the obverse is way too busy with the dual date, privy mark, and mint mark all crowded in the fields. But that's a problem that plagues many modern coin designs too.

6/7/2026 Almost one month since last post and the Mint still has coin available (ATS= 1,555) I'm wondering if anyone has mintage numbers of past Gold Buffs ( 1oz) could 2026s hold additional value for low #"s ? Saw a gold show on TV today and the host was really talking this coin up and comparing it to other # coins Like the 1995 W ASE.

Those TV coin marketing shows hype up everything they sell like you're going to die from the plague if you don't buy it, overpriced too. Just do a Google search, you'll find mintages of past years. You could compare prices between proof and UNC bullion with the major online dealers. Gold spot prices determine the value more with bullion coins than collectible rarity value in my opinion. Some gold buffalo have higher premium like the 2013 reverse proof. High gold prices may reduce the mint's annual sales of gold coins. The 2026 gold with dual date and privy should keep a good premium in the future I think but nobody knows for sure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameri...ffalo_(coin)

@ livingwater...Thank You for the link....now it puts me on the fence of ordering one or not. Think I'll call the Mint and try to find out if all of the available ones were prior returns
