For the Vancouver Island (Canada) mentioned in Wikipedia, there is a huge variety of its numismatics of all kinds and types, enough for a separate catalog. There are very special numismatic items, such as this one:

Vancouver Island, 10$ token:

p.s. I also have collected numismatics for all the islands in Canada, so Canadians can join the topic)

Thank you for participating in this game!

Let's continue our research. Let's return to the San Juan Islands in Washington State and take a closer look at the map:

The token for Lummi Island was already shown in the previous post.
I searched for numismatics for other islands in this group and found a few more.

For Orcas Island I found a series of different types of tokens, elongated pressed cents, wooden nickel, and five types of plastic tokens, like these:

Next for Lopez Island I found some tokens, but only one writes the full name of the island:

Lopez Island, 1 Free Coke or Coffee, Wooden Nickel token, San Juan Islands

Also in this group, I have found only one token from 2005 so far, for the Stuart island: The only photo I found.

Stuart island, San Juan Islands, Washington, Good Luck token, 2005:

Maybe someone has seen other tokens about these islands and knows more? Then show what else can be found in numismatics about these islands..)

Elongated pressed cents - this is a special category in numismatics and I have seen different series of these tokens for the San Juan islands group. I selected those that show the entire island group on the map and saw that there are four different types.
Now you can additionally play the game "find how these cents are similar and how they are different":

And here is another special category in numismatics: "geocoin". The link above mentioned the Gulf Islands in Canada in connection with "pig war". Here is a token from this series about these islands:

Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, Geocoin, (Canada)

A-Numismatic-Game---Search-For-

By the way, I searched for tokens for the entire Gulf Islands group for each island separately and found there various numismatic tokens by the names of these islands. But this is already the country of Canada, if numismatists from Canada appear in the game then this issue can also be investigated.)

For the Virgin Islands the situation was different and there was a series of tokens of a completely different type:

Logic says that this does not rule out that the Gilbert tokens could also be referring to the same Buck Island, as the other tokens have no official connection to the (unpopulated) island. For example, Mr. Gilbert may have operated a dive shop in the USVI, and used those tokens to advertise diving trips to Buck Island, since it is known that there are many such businesses there.

Probably more likely than Mr. Gilbert being in Klamath Falls, OR where there are fewer people tryng to get to Buck Island.

I understand. There is also a very interesting site "tokencatalog" for American tokens. And all the experts there have not found or figured out anything yet, only one token of 50 cents is mentioned without a photo and with the inscription "unknown USA"... Here is the only mention in the catalog:

The point is that this island does not belong to the U.S.V.I. but belongs to the B.V.I. The design and decoration of the token is clearly similar in style not to the British but to the American, although it really may not be in the USA.

When I started to research all the numismatics on the islands, there were many funny discoveries for me. It's nice to find something rare and unexpected, and then to find something else that no one could find before, even in catalogs...

Here is an example for a South Carolina state token. First in one catalog, then in another, I see a description for a token without an island name, and the only known denomination is "3":

Big Oak island, S.C., token "3" :

And here at first it is possible to find this token in good quality:

And later, among the unidentified tokens, find another one with a denomination of "15":

Big Oak island, S.C., "15" , token:

We completely forgot about New York State, and yet there are three islands there that do not exist in reality, two of which we have already discovered in numismatics in the form of tokens. Is there a token for the third island?..:

Quote:
These hills looked like islands during the wet seasons of the year. Hence Pine Island, Middle Island and Pellets Island areas are the names that were given to some of the more prominent hills in the area once humans started naming things.

The third island is called Middle. It looks like we managed to find three out of three, here's the token:

Middle Island, NY, car wash token:

Here's another token for Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands. It doesn't have the island's name on it, but the map shows the location:

Lopez Island
, Richardson, Washington, G.W.L., 5¢ token

A-Numismatic-Game---Search-For-

ps. On the other hand, the same catalog separately shows two tokens for Lopez Island, but without a photo:

Continuation of interesting stories with catalogs. Once upon a time, a token from Ladies (Lady's) Island in South Carolina appeared at auction for the first time, but it had a large hole. In this form, it was included in the catalog because only this specimen was known for this island:

A-Numismatic-Game---Search-For-

I searched for a long time and after a few years I saw another copy, but also with a large hole, though in a different place:

Ladies Island, S.C. cannery token, L.P. Maggioni & Co

A-Numismatic-Game---Search-For-

I wanted to see the full image and I found it in some old paper edition:

Nope. That's a different place, in a different part of New York (on Long Island, about 150 km away).
Keep looking!

Ok! Thank you. This is interesting. So New York has not one but two Middle islands, and neither of them is a real island. Let's see what we can find.

But then I noticed that there is a third island, Mid Island. The map shows Staten Island on one side and Long Island in New York on the other. So this is another fake island?:

Mid Island, TV Service, 10¢, token

The address is given, but it shows either on Staten Island or on Long Island.
