Hello, all. This is newish area to me. Normally I collect US coins, being that I'm American. However, considering my previous obsession with hunting through Lincoln Cent rolls and living so close to the Canadian border (Southeast Michigan), I have amassed a small collection of Canadian small cents.

I'd call this my "budget" date set, as it has not cost me anything besides buying the folder.

I have most of the coins from 1937-2012. I am only keeping one for each year, and not doing varieties or anything like that.
So far, 5 bucks is all I have realistically spent on this collection.

I really like these older, King George VI cents. Some of the missing spots, I just threw in an obverse coin that I had duplicates of for now, as I don't know if I will ever obtain more of these

Here's a few of the nicer coins.

This 1965 is darn near BU if you ask me

I am thinking to purchase a few of the older coins from ebay, since they literally cost like 2 dollars each. But, I don't know if I want to or not.

That's all, folks!

I did something similar years ago with a couple of older Canada cents cardboard folders. All of the coins were acquired through roll searching.

Looking good!

I have a smaller run of circulation found Canadian cents in a blank Dansco page.

Very nice start, congrats.
You may want to consider looking at the ones with 2 or more coins in a year, 1965 -4 , then starting in 2001 zinc and one with a P which is steel, same for 2002 - 2003 has 4 different ones 2005 - 2006 has 6 , 2007 - 2008 - 2009 - 2010 - 2011 and 2012 with 2 also.
If you need help let me know.

Thank you. Nah, I'm good. I'll stick to a date set personally. I might get the 2 from 2012, but that's probably it.

The only thing I might be interested in is purchasing some of the older, pre-37 older style small cents. Is there a name for them, though?

Because obviously, despite both being Canadian small cents, both the reverse and obverse are different. I much prefer the standard reverse from 37 to 2012.

Nice set!

I have always liked the Canadian cents. I had most of them from putting together a set like yours back in the 1970's. They sat in storage for decades until 2012 when Canada discontinued the cent coin. So I decided to "finish" my set. I got all the dates, and then noticed the varieties. So I got those. Then I thought "why not do the large cents too?". Most of them weren't very expensive after all. To make a very long story short, I collect them all now: Small and large, by date, mint mark, variety, die pairs and die states. I have enjoyed the coins, and even more the friendships of fellow collectors.

Seeing your set bring back some fond memories of my collecting journey. If you would like a few earlier cents, message me and I'll send you a few to meditate on.

WTG Humanist1287. Nice start. I did the same in the 1970's when I found a 1923 Canadian Cent in circulation. I was really into Lincolns at the time, but that find gave me the bug, and I completed the set through circulation finds, much like yourself.

Humanist, you are following in my footsteps :) I did the small cents and then got bullied into doing the large cents. Good luck.

Here are my 2 sets.

I am a big fan of the Canada 1 cent coins too. Thanks mostly to McShilling and Loonie, I have managed to put together a nearly complete set of the small cents. I'm missing 6 of the KM#28 coins (mostly the low mintage one), both 2006P (one of which is very rare), 2007 KM#490,
