Very cool find! I have similar damage to a modern nickel but cannot find it and surmised something similar, not sure of the date even.

Both hide in the shadows. If you put a defuser of sorts (I use tp or a piece of white paper with a hole punched in it for the camera to peak through) on your scope they will pop out.
