Very Wierd Nickel - Coin Community Forum

Pepsizombie New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 08/04/2009 10:57 pm I have a very different nickel that I've never seen before, it is almost one sided. The front is pushed in but the rim is untouched, the date and all lettering is not visible. The face of the president is there and indented slightly but still hardly noticable. The rim is the exact width as a standard American nickle. Sorry for the poor quality images. Is this nickel worth more then 5cents and if so what would be your estimated value. gibby3 Valued Member United States 69 Posts	Posted 08/04/2009 11:29 pm it looks like it was struck normally but didn't get ejected from the die, then a blank planchet was struck on top of this one and obliterated the details of the obverse. that's my hypothesis :) Report this Post to the Staff

mikediamond Pillar of the Community United States 2740 Posts	Posted 08/05/2009 11:30 am Since the ghost image of Jefferson is faint, it was most likely struck through an early- or mid-stage, uniface die cap. A uniface die cap is a coin that never had an image on its working face because it was initially struck against another planchet. As errors go, these are fairly common and generally bring about $15 on ebay. Error coin writer and researcher. Report this Post to the Staff
