To answer your question, I've been using my new flatbed, an Epson Perfection V39 II, for about six months now. It's great...probably because it's a hardwired dedicated scanner with none of that three-way all-in-one multi-function wi-fi stuff going on. It can be set to scan at up to 6400 x 6400 dpi, but I shot this coin at 2400, and even that is probably way more than I need for internet imaging. At about 3200 I could totally fill my 27" monitor with a single berry from the reverse of your little Carl XV silver beauty! ...which makes it great for my exonumismatic diagnostics too...no more microscope!
One trick I learned quickly (without knowing why it works this way) is to keep the lid up. It seems to retain more depth, color variation, shadows, detail, etc., that way. Haven't tried it on slabs yet, but I imagine the powerful light reflecting off the plastic will make for some pretty bad images. It sells for less than USD 100 these days (around here in upstate NY, anyway). Recommended wholeheartedly!

Toner upgrade 1923 Mercury dime. Those are some nice toners @ Moniker and nss-52. Also, Daltonista has a beauty as well. I'd like to have one of those.    Edited by DoctorBurnzy
