I'm continually trying to develop an eye for cleaned coins. Tell me what you think about this half dollar:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1857-Seated-Lib...in_W0QQitemZ a href= https://www.coincommunity.com/go/link.asp?target=https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/380202170393 target= _blank rel= nofollow 380202170393 /a QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item5885d0b819

I think this coin has NOT been cleaned. The lustre seems consistent throughout the devices, I don't see any dark spots. The coloring seems natural for silver. I don't see any signs of whizzing.

I'm seeing some hairlines especially on the reverse, I believe it has been cleaned. Still a very beautiful coin. If it wasn't cleaned it would be priced at book value.

I see the hairlines as well as well as a slightly more lackluster reverse. It has been lightly cleaned.

Been cleaned. Look in thefields on thereverse of the coin and the hairline scratches are very obvious. That doen;t mean it isn't a great coin, it just means be aware it has been cleaned and price accordingly.

At the very least, it has been dipped. 150+ year old coins should not be bright white.
Rest in Peace

The reverse really says it all and that it's been cleaned. The fact that it's bright white is also and indication. That said it's still a great looking coin.
