For the ones I have taken, I hold a serving tray wrapped in a black t-shirt over the coin so that there is nothing reflecting in the fields. I center the lens over the frosted area so it does not show in the fields. My lights sources come in from the sides. |

Thanks - I have not seriously tried yet to take a pic of proofs. However, I figured something like this would need be done.

I would not rub or wipe them, nor would I use soap and water. I would give them a soak in acetone, then a rinse in fresh acetone. Otherwise, I would leave them be. They seem to be okay after 31 years in a bank envelope, right? |

Otherwise, I would leave them be. They seem to be okay after 31 years in a bank envelope, right? Thanks for the info. They look good for how old they are. Just dont know much about them lol. They also have a weird dull look to them. Can't tell if its all aging or if its a light dust. |

That residue will likely come off if you put them in acetone - which cannot hurt/change the metal of the Ike itself. Inexpensive at Wal-mart - right on the shelf with the fingernail polish removed. But just make sure it says 100% acetone with nor fragrance and/or coloring added. |
