I never count the rolls. If I have to search one to two thousand worth of dimes and I only have two hours in the afternoon, it's got to be quick. Unwrap, and throw the spoils into a $500 bag. Take bags to CU, hand over to teller, get cash. In a year and a half of this process, never a report of short bags. Brinks must allow a percentage over or under per contract. I lost this privilege recently because of teller error counting the vault. They did tell me that it was no fault of mine, but they had to change policy, (and can only accept rolled coin). Now I have to use a counter, and average short is 3 to 5 dimes out of $500 increments.

Hey, longtime lurker and first time poster here. I got into coin roll hunting a few months ago. In the six or seven boxes I have searched, I have found at most two silver dimes, and they've all been Roosevelts. I have also found a 50% silver Canadian dime from 1968 and a 80% silver Canadian dime from 1957, in different boxes.
On my most recent dime box search, I found nothing in the first 49 rolls, but in the last roll of the box, I notice a very shiny rim and I pulled the dime out to see a very nice 1955D, in XF or AU condition. Talk about coming through in a clinch!

I have just started view this forum in the past few weeks. And decided to pick up $30 in dimes today when getting some cash. I was shocked to find a 1964 silver dime in one of the rolls that I picked up. I think I am already addicted to searching roll.
Any tips for someone just getting started?

Welcome rj, I love roll searching but deffinetly no pro. The only real advice I can offer you is take it easy. My own experience proved to me that if you go through boxes and boxes and find nothing it puts a bad mood on roll searching for you. Like my self I like dime searching but because I did about 6 boxes in a week and found nothing, I am taking a nice long break. But the others will be sure to teach you the ropes! Glad to have you! yeah SD, I know. the CWR are where it's at, but I didn't have time to get to the CU today. had to go to wachovia.
even still, I have never had such a skunking before--that's even considering these are brinks boxes. with brinks, sure, you might miss a box here and there, but 7?

well, with all the fuss over brinks on the half thread, I would not doubt that they pick out the silver over there as well. I think it was loomis, but brinks may be following suit. I would think going strictly customer wrapped rolls will be the way to go for everything, except cents and nickles

I've been waiting for 3 years for proof that Brinks or any other courier is culling silver.........comments have been quite entertaining!

Theories regarding Brinks and others culling silver have been circulating for several years, at least as long as I've been roll hunting. Not necessarily limited to this forum.

so are you on the side of those that think there's not much to assertion that they're culling? or are you just on the fence?

Fistfull - I share your skepticism that a company is pulling silver. However, I have gotten boxes where rolls were opened and where coins were taken off the ends. Therefore, I feel that employees of the companies definitely "cull". Boxes have fallen off which I account to roll searchers and tellers reacting to high prices.
