Quote: history in making as it marks the beginning of both, the rise of Islam and demise of Capitalism for the two can't co-exist....This is the first time in the last 100 years, since the fall of the Ottoman Caliphate, when a Muslim government introduces Shariah Currency.....
As far as I am aware, the Ottoman Empire never issued legal dinars (4.25 grams of 22k gold) or legal dirhams (2.98 grams of fine silver). Both of those denominations had disappeared from circulation in Islamic nations long before the Ottoman Empire came into existence in the 1400s AD. The dirham and dinar were both wiped out by that old capitalist bogey, inflation. Apparently, nobody back then missed them, or thought they were essential.
Unfortunately, according to Malaysia's constitution (Schedule 9, List 1, Section 7) Malaysian states do not have the right to issue their own coinage, so these coins are unofficial. Obviously the folks in Kelantan believe the Quran and Hadith over-ride the constitution. It also means that you're not going to be finding them listed in Krause.
Quote: I wonder what these look like.
See pictures on the official website. The coins were actually struck by the "World Islamic Mint" in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
