The coin is from Ceylon. It is a 10 cent piece. In UNC cond. it is worth about $.30 but its still an intresting coin. You can get an excellent reference on world coins by picking up collecting world coins circulating issues for 1901 to date. This is about $45.00 in most coin shops.

Ceylon it is. It is somewhat tricky. Iran, for instance has a similar dragon. My son has a themaic album with nothing but them. I never gave much attention to the proud felines, but have grown fond of the differences.

Ahh, when I went to Sri Lanka a couple of years ago, I picked up a large number of these Ceylon coins, some even from the British era.

It is definitely an interesting coin, and there is quite a large variety of Ceylonese coinage. Definitely worth a check out.
