It seems to have distorted the features that border the rim. I've seen it a a lot of the 80's cents, but not so much the newer ones. Pics: Reverse: Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 02/28/2011 10:15 pm I've seen this many times. It is very common on cents. It may have something to do with too much striking pressure. I'm not sure, but it happens a lot and I don't feel it is attractive. The 2009's seem to be the most common to have that. Both mints exibit this. Report this Post to the Staff

I have never seen this on a copper-base composition cent, so my assumption is that it has something to do with how the steel in the die reacts to the zinc in the planchets. nismojones Valued Member United States 83 Posts	Posted 03/01/2011 10:48 am Good point I do not ever remember seeing it on copper cents whatsoever, only the post-82. And the die crack, I'm not sure, there is a little more evidence of it also on the 'PLURIBUS', may be hard to tell on the pictures I posted here, clearer on my computer. * The pictures I take allow me to zoom in 100x and still be crystal clear, but after I upload them and post them/link to this site I lose some of that zoom capability which is lame, but ehh that's why I take close up/as focused as possible for you guys to see it clear enough.
