As a matter of my personal education, two follow up questions: (1) I think also that it has been cleaned, because of the way dark areas are near the relief... But please, what is it that one looks for in a cleaned coin (or about this coin specifically). (2) I am not contending here... just curious, when one says this is "not a variety" is one saying that '1997D brass' is not, by definition, a variety?. Or because it has been cleaned "it is not a variety"? Or? Thanking you in advance. I do not have thin skin about this coin. I just wish to learn. Report this Post to the Staff

The brassy, polished look is a dead give away from farther than arm's distance. Coins are not minted to look like that. Report this Post to the Staff
