That's an awesome DDO- way underrated. The #2 is fun too. They're really tough in full red BU.

If it weren't for the mintmark, you'd almost think it was die #002 from Philly, they are so similar. But, the doubling on the date seems a little stronger on this one.
I like it, too.

Excellent coin. I am still looking for one myself. I feel it could happen any day, week or years. At least I will have something to do.

Have you check coppercoins.com yet? It looks like 1972D-1DO-003 or 004. What kind of doubling on the LIBERTY does your coin have?

coop, I'm not seeing any of the markers for #003 or #004.
You don't think the die scratches in front of Abe's face is a match for #001?

I'm going with #1. The die scratch from chin to nostril is telling. The letters all look good. The line in the bottom of the 2 in date is a match (angled not straight like #3 and not missing like #2 and #4).
Edit: I just the saw other thread and coop's example of #002 has the angled line in 2. Still looks like #1 though.

Nismojones- The '72-D DDOs have been largely overlooked. I feel they're scarcer than most of the '72P varieties, but haven't been searched for nearly as much, so they're more easily found. For dies #1-3, I've found around 6 in the last couple of years all XF-AU+ and gotten a couple off of ebay in the same grade for under $10. I'd be happy to give away a couple examples if I'm not breaking any forum rules....

If someone wants to take up the charge and run the contest, I'll ship out the coins to them. How'bout you Scooby?

Chris: I didn't think it was 001 the firs time through as I felt it was stronger, so I didn't look. But it is 001. The markers do match.!
liveandievarieties:Or put them up for sale on the auction forum. I think you have enough posts to list them there. Try building an auction and it will tell you if you have enough time/post in to list there? I've been selling my collection as I'm retiring. That was my plans all along. I'm changing from a collector now to a seller. I'll still buy, but buy to help someone else get what they want.
The forum is great to use to sell off duplicates so you can have money to buy other varities you don't have yet. If you haven't looked lately, take a look.
