Is there anything similar to the 82 P -- NO FG for the 72 D's?

The FG area is filled and is "slightly" visible when titling the coin. Also the "stars" below FG looks to be filled / blurry as well.

I saw the reverse first and thought it was a 82 P.

I would appreciate any insights / thoughts on this.

Thanks

I looked through my book nothing listed. I went to CONECA web site nothing listed. It was over polished which took away the details. IMHO

Judging by the overall strike I think it is not even a polish issue
so much as just plain die wear. As far as I know there is no die variety
period (82-P included) for the kennedy halfs that omitted the FG.
All little or no show FG's are either polishing and or die wear.
Some still pay a premium for the 82-P so I guess that is their thing.
Look at the 22 plain Lincoln Cent. Same phenom. but commands a premium.
I believe the 82/83-P Roosevelt dime falls into the same category
as being die wear and not a variety.

I have to agree entirely with Indian- Look at the 3-legged Buffalo, caused by an overpolished die.

Now look in your Cherrypicker's Guide in the Lincoln Cents Section- 1969-D FS-901- No FG. I picked a dozen of these out of BU rolls. Sent one to PCGS, it got the FS attribution and was graded MS-63 Red. Sent a second, it graded MS-64 Red. Then I sent a half dozen- ALL WERE DENIED, even though they were exactly the same coins that PCGS already attributed.

I think that missing initials on coins are collectible for some people, but be very careful what you assign value to- many won't see things the same.

Ultimately, I have a hard time seeing value in a coin that is the result of a common practice at the Mint- polishing. The CP guide has a dozen listings for the 2-feather varieties of buffalos. No FG cents or halves? I think that with extensive searching, most years of both series will yield examples. Valuable? Only if you find someone who wants to pay for it. OR if it gets into a reference book!

I think in order to be a no FG "variety" there needs to be no visible FG at all. I've found a couple of real no FG 82s and a few where you can see just the slightest hint of an FG. I've never found a real no FG 72D but I've found a dozen very faint ones. The no FS 90D nickel doesn't have this issue - it's either there or it isn't.

While I don't think they belong in my collection, I do set them aside in case they might have some value some day. Just because I don't want them doesn't mean I'm going to throw them back!

That surely says something about consistency...sounds like all TPG's suffer from a lack of it.
