Thank you very much for the un-selfish contribution of your knowledge about Indian rupee, drnsreedhar. This is also one of my collections but I only collect modern machine rupees for the reason that they are easier to understand.

There is an old rupee collection I have had it for a long time but I can't understand it any more so would you please to give me some information which will become my notes of this coin.

What I know about this coin are as follows:
It was a silver rupee struck at British (EIC) Madras Presidency, the year minted was 1758 (AH1172) at the reign of Shah Alamgir II. The weight of this coin is 11.76 grams, 27.8mm in diameter.

Please see the pictures:

drnsreedhar, have I posted the coin up-side-down? Can you tell any information that I missed? Thank you very much. Henry

The building shown on that is the famous Charminar. On its door you can see the letter "Ain". The script is Persian.

Who can tell me the meaning of this Persian word "Ain"? Thank you.

Ain is not a word. It is a letter in Arabic alphabet. It is written as "ع". You can find this alphabet in the character map of the computer font Arial.

Hello Dr Sreedhar.. Thanks for your contribution here.. This is fantastic. It indeed helps to see how you are reading the coins.. I am trying to learn the persian/urdu scripts to read the scripts on the coins, but its just getting harder and harder..

Thanks for your help with coin pictures and your interpretations..

I am sorry that the picture of the Madras presidency coin slipped. It was because I posted another picture with the same file name. I shall try to locate the other and post. Sorry for the inconvenience

The upper image is of a coin of Bijapur sultanate.I presume it is of Murtaza, but please check up with books. I will try to give the detail once I am back and the book is with me.
Lower image is of a princely state coin of Indore. That bull to left is characteristic of Indore issues.

Thanks for the reply drnsreedhar. I don't have a coin book reference so I'll just look for some info for the meantime. I'll be posting some other coins which I think are Indian as well. Thank you much again for the info...

I am very sorry Redphoenix621, that I made a very grave error. Murtaza ruled in AhmadNagar, not in Bijapur. I beg your pardon for this serious error. I am posting an image of another Murtaza coin.

Once again I am sorry for the slip.
