The 16x shots pick up weird lighting effects but I guarantee you all the coin is not guilder or anything. It ha a nice red over brown color, with a lot of luster, but the coin is uncleaned or otherwise altered...not sure why the little gold like flecks show up in the pics ... It's weird.

I think you're looking for the word "gilded". Although I'm sure the coin is also not a member of a guild. It's not gilded, guilded nor gelded (thankfully on all three counts!)

Stand them on edge, together, to compare the rims. Matte Proof coins have SHARP rims. Your VDB looks like it might have this. There is some die markers to look for as well. Google matte proof identification...and get your loop and digital camera back out.

There is a die scratch to the right of Lincoln's nose. Would need a closer shot of your coin to see.

Here's some pictures of the front of the coin - there do appear to be some die scratches in front of his face...I'm completely unknowledgable when it comes to matte proofs, and the page you provided isn't opening for me...is this possibly a valuable coin? I didn't purchase it as a proof, just as a run of the mill "uncirc" 09 VDB, paid $15 for him about 7 years ago. ?

Oh, and the rims are VERY square and full...still trying to get a shot of that.

Ya'know, going back over this thread and looking at these pictures again, I have to ask...what the heck is up with this coin?!? Any ideas? I just noticed also from my latest pics that it looks like Abe has a pretty good adam's apple going on there...This is an odd coin. Someone, anyone, please help.

Here's another view of the neck area...

1909-VDB/VDB

And the best shots of the rim I could get - in each pic, the 1909 is on the left, a 1957 is on the right.

Um....you need to have that coin graded.

Can we get a closeup of the field to the right of Lincolns chin?

This thread should help you:

There is a die chip on the reverse as well.

Ummmm....need a better picture. The shadow on yours could very likely be a die chip. If so, that would mean....CHA CHING!
