Well wait,we haven't determined it's not real yet. Lets wait for a pro or two to chime in.The whole thing doesn't look right to me including what was already mentioned and the numerals as well. John1

OK I will try to post better pictures. There is alot of wear on the face area. The reason I am interested in it, I am trying to finish up a Peace dollar set and it fits into my budget.

I'd guess possible fake...maybe it's just the photos. The lettering and devices do look odd. I don't care for the coin.

Details look accurate probably a high relief type with a good bit of wear. I would say somewhere in the F-15 to VF-20 range.
EDIT: On second glance, I think the grade may be closer to the VG range. Some of the detail is worn pretty flat.

I was thinking VG/F looks like someone may have used an eraser to clean this a while back.

You may be right. It appears as though someone may not of liked the toning on the front and may of tried to remove it. But for the price I like it and if down the road if the budget allows I will update the coin. Appreciate the info and opinions,

I'm not saying this coin is not real, it looks like a nice semi key, low mintage Peace in Vg condition to me. The thing about Peace dollars is; how do you know? I've seen lots of Peace dollars while brousing through ebay, (something many of us are guilty of, whether we buy or not) and I see advertised fake Peace dollars, with copy printed on them. Usually these coins look really authenic as far as I can tell. I suppose in hand, checking weight, and with a magnet, more educated assessments can be made. Maybe I'll post a new topic on this since I'm currently building a Peace set.

He originally wanted 75.00. Pointed out some of the info I got from here and he agreed to 50.00. I figured I wasn't paying way to much over melt. And like I said when the budget allows I will upgrade.

He also had the one that I really want 1928 in au (at least it appeared that way to me ) condition but it wasn't in the budget at this time.

I know this is frowned upon and a big no no, but since I didn't pay a whole lot for it would it do any harm to dip the coin to eliminate what ever it is on the front since it appears someone attempted to clean it up in the past or should I leave as is. I do not plan on selling it. Most Peace dollars I have seen have been cleaned in some form. Just a question.

I personally think dipping would do more harm than good. But you own it, at least try on a junk coin first. Dipping generally ruins any orginal patina and is distracting, if not down right ugly, especially on lower grade coins.
