Any 10 cent, 25 cent, 50 cent or dollar dated 1967 or earlier is silver and is worth roughly 20x face value just for silver alone, ignoring the numismatic value. Some 1968 dimes and quarters are also silver.

Now you're telling us that while you can grade coins in the 40's and 50's, you're not sure if coins from the last century are worth anything and are thinking of taking them to a bank? I'm trying to do what I can to read your posts as something other than phishing for sales here but you're not making it easy. Every post has been "look what I found", and you will post pictures if someone is interested. |

Sarcasm is fine but soliciting a buy offer is not (yet!) You must have at least 250 quality* posts and have been a member for at least 90 days to post anything for sale or trade. You must have at least 100 quality* posts to post links to sales on external sites such as ebay or eCrater. You must have at least 50 quality* posts and have been a member for at least 14 days to buy or respond to a trade. All buying, selling, and trading must be done in the appropriate forums, not the discussion forums. No "make an offer" sales are permitted. Firm prices only. No actually, If you read my posts you would see that I have stated other people graded some of the coins, the only reason I can grade anything is because, if you also looked at the pictures I have posted, you would see the grades are written on them, I don't know what half of the letters mean, and I have also posted a picture of a british penny from the late 1800's that is apparently worthless. Someone also stated they would be more than happpy to purchase some of the 50 cent pieces which I promtly declined. If I am going to be questioned about trying to find a value of some of my coins I will be more than happy to find another forum. I came here for information and stated I didn't plan to sell I am just looking for information. Since then I've had post deleted without stating I wanted to sell anything.

And as for the "look what I found" part, this is the only post I have stated that in, because I opened a box that has 100 dimes written on the side and it was a box of 50 cent peices...

Ok Bhann, let's do this. First off, please understand where we as staff are coming from. This is a pretty large forum as you can see and it gets a lot of traffic. This forum is here for EDUCATIONAL purposes first and foremost. If you want to learn about coins, or are truly looking to unload an inheritance, we are here to help you with identifying what you have, and also to help you grade things. We get more "solicitors" on this forum than you can imagine, and because of this, we usually use a "remove first, ask questions later" type of mindset to help protect the members. The staff here is not large and the community is pretty darn big as you can see. Now having said that, you have made comments on this forum and on the stamp forum that you are looking to become a collector/seller. If that is your intention, we just have a slight conflict of interest with what you are doing. My recommendation is that you start by purchasing some publications to help YOU learn what it is you have. While this place is an educational site, it isn't a place to help you run your business. There is an investment in knowledge that you must gain for yourself, and it is imperative that you do this and not rely on other peoples "Opinions" on what you have and what their value is. Again, we are not here to dissuade you from choosing this hobby, but you must invest in more than photos and questions on this website to become a numismatist and someone that folks here would trust buying from. So, in summary, get yourself some books, learn how to grade things, learn the value of things, and THEN start asking for questions and help. If you have no interest in collecting and you just want to sell, I would recommend consigning your coins somewhere so someone with more knowledge can list them and sell them for you. What we like to see here is "what's a good book to buy if I want to start collecting and selling these coins". Not "hey, look what I found, any interest in them?"  |

I never said I wanted to sell anything through either of these forums, I said I wanted to sell the stuff I have, and then be done with it. that is the reason I joined the forums, to get a better understanding of what people are interested in, and a slight understanding of what kind of coins are worth more than their face value, and what makes them worth anything. I listed stuff and asked people what they wanted to see, some people quickly replied asking me to take pictures of certain things so I did. I don't see what the problem is here. Isn't that the point of this forum? For people to share their collections? And for beginners to get a better understanding of the coins they have? And as for the books, people have recommended them to me, I have had coins indentified. You guys are making it seem like like I just came here and said "hey people who wants to buy this?" Anyway, fine I'll go somewhere else.

I do not think Bhann is one of those, but don't think we are singling him out because we find it fun just to mess with people. Apparently you didn't read my final post and/or didn't get the part of how many folks come onto this forum that you DO NOT see that are here to take advantage of YN's and people in general. They have no intention of learning anything and are merely here to promote their business. After a few posts now, we are starting to at least get some confirmation from Bhann to his intentions. So forgive me coinsearcher if you don't approve of the way I handled this specific scenario. If you have a problem with it, you can reply with a notes to staff next time because sarcastic comments towards us trying to do our jobs goes over like a fart in church.  |
