If you have enough coin folders, like one for each scout, maybe ask the scouts to bring a few rolls of cents each to the meeting to search through them to fill up the folders?

I'd like to thank everyone who sent me something. It was really fantastic to get these packages for the scouts. The meeting is in about two weeks, so if anyone has any last minute packages that they would like to send, please let me know.
The kids are going to have a blast!

SJU,
What type of coin-meeting-related format have you decided to implement for the boys?
I was just wondering if you were going run some sort of contest or game and exactly what it will be.
Please let us know.
Just curious,

I'm going to have them each bring two rolls of pennies, or just a handful from home. I'll then seed them with the wheats and IHC that I was given. I'll have the boys put these pennies into the folders I was given, and this will be the gathering activity. I'm then going to go through the current mints and their purpose, and show them several historic and uncommon coins that I have. I'm going to go over the various ways of coin storage and correct handling of the coins. I'll explain and show them the coin collecting merit badge that they can achieve when they are Boy Scouts. Then I'm going to give them each some poker chips as fake money and have an auction for some of the interesting coins that I was given for them. I've also got a goodie bag for each scout that contains: A 2010, 2011 or 2012 Red Book (I've got several of each) One IHCOne steelie One no date Buffalo nickelOne V nickelOne 1976 half dollar One $1 silver certificate (most are badly abused, but still cool) One LWCOne BU LMCOne LMC Whitman folder One Whitman coin catalogue One 2x2 for each size of coins that they may already have at home A business card from my local shop A piece of paper with this site's web address The dates and location of the bi-weekly coin show that I got to in the area and any other items that trickle in from the generous posters here, over the next two weeks. Should be a fun time.

Going to keep pushing this to the top until the OP provides some info on the event. Many members made a considerable investment in this and I believe it's fair to request a reply. Without the promised "update" that was offered at the end of April, we begin to think the worst and hesitate to support future endeavors.

All,
Apologies for the delay. I was away in Myrtle Beach for my brother's wedding.
The kids had a blast. I've got a bunch of pics on my phone that my son took for me while I was giving the presentation.
The kids had never seen, or even heard of several of the coins that I showed them. Their faces were awesome when I gave them the goodies that were donated. They could not believe it. The parents were asking if I was sure that all of this was for them. Even Whitman sent a package with a bunch of 2010 red books. I had enough to give each boy one and one sibling as well.
Along with you guys, I put a decent chunk of my personal collection in the lot for them. They all have the site's address, so I hope that some come here.
Thanks to all and I'll post pics when I get them off of my phone.

wow, I bet youll make a few collectors out of them. Even if they dont start collecting now they will probably find that goodie bag in 10 years and it will spark a new interist. when I was a kid my dad used to collect coins but stopped by the time I was about 7. I recently found his old collestion which had one Morgan dollar. an 1883 s beautifuly toned. thats what caught my interist. Hopefully it will happen to some of them Matt

I tried to get them as interested as I could. My son is very much into collecting, so he was pushing them also. One kid brought in an Ike and I made a big deal out of it. I showed him my completed whitman folder, and he thought it was really neat. I was a little wary of having the kids handle all of my folders, but it worked out well. One boy was looking at my IHC folder and said, "wow, this one is worth $7 million?" That immediately led to the part of the presentation where I went into mintage.
