Quote: We'd be broke, she keeps me grounded Ditto, that! The only reason I own a house (as opposed to renting) and have my son's college tuition saved up 10 years early is because my wife doesn't collect coins (or anything else) and gives me grief whenever I want to spend something....

I'm envious of you who can share your hobby. My wife is wonderful about letting me have my coins but she has virtually no interest in coins at all (takes too many to buy anything LOL).

Like hog heaven! Coins bore her, but how 'bout this: she brings home solid silver rolls of halves, rolls of steel wheats, War Nickels, silver quarters, mercs, rosies, and so on, and so on, and...oh...don't hate her cause she's beautiful...
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

I collected as a kid, but stopped long before I was married. My dad passed away a couple years ago, and I got our old family collection. I started collecting again, out of nowhere.
My wife had no idea I was a collector. However, she doesn't mind me collecting. Roll hunting still confused her, though. She couldn't believe that there's actually that much silver out there. Also, she thinks I'm the only one who hunts. I wish!
I recently met a woman at work who collects, too. At first, my wife was maybe a bit jealous. However, she knows we're just good collecting friends...

I am fortunate My wife collects also; she isn't as passionate as I am, but does get excited about the occasional coin. She is more into commemoratives than I am and isn't quite as awed I am by the sense of history in coin collecting, but our main focuses are old US coins. We have separate bank accounts and each have our own responsibilities regarding paying bills. As long as we meet our bills, then there is no hassle. There never has been, to date.

Sharing my interests is not something I consider very important in finding a spouse. I could live with any category of collector/non-collector, if I was lucky enough to find someone. Odds are I won't.

I think it is important to realize that in this group, our spouses are as varied as the different ways we collect our coins.

Not being the very sociable type, and seeing as I travel for business (a lot!), it has been pretty hard to meet someone, and stay in a relationship. It came down at one point to being either my girlfriend, at the time, or that shiny xf 1916-D Merc dime.... You should see my completed Mercury dime set

ahaha => good one, coin map!
My wife has her own crafty-hobbies, so I don't get in "too much" trouble if I buy some nice coins (however, I must admit that I occasionally down-play some of my big-league purchases!)
I've never really tested her shock-reaction, but I'm guessing that she'd probably raise an eyebrow knowing I dropped 7K on half a dozen items last weekend!? (thank God we don't have kids, so we keep our cash in separate piles!)
=> but who knows, maybe that cute smile that she has on her face means that she has just spent $8K on her stained-glass supplies!?
..... oh well, it's all good ...

My wife and I have an unwritten agreement. I save money and she spends it.

I kid of like that my wife isn't really into coins. It gives me something to do as a hobby for myself (and my dad somewhat shares the hobby). I enjoy doing some hobbies and activities with my wife, but it is nice to have it to myself so to speak, plus she won't cut into the coin allowance :)

We upgraded our home entertainment system a few months ago. If my wife cared about coin collecting as much as I do, I'd probably have those last 3 LWC key dates I need instead of a new 57" flat-screen, a PS3 with several games, and a Netflix account. Before, it was a 15-year old CRT TV, a PS2, and DVD's. Meh, I guess I can live with that
