You probably think I'm but I am actually serious.

Page 134 of the latest Macca's. In 2006 a 1988 COA sold for $5,400 and there are 7 known examples of a 1977 COA. Officially no COA 50c were minted in those years but apparently a few of them were created by accident.

Just something else to look out for while noodling

You are right, MobOfRoos. There are 1977 and 1988 COA, I think I miss that part from McDonald, just went back and read it.

I was aware they existed but they are super rare so not much chance of finding one in circulation.

What could 50 cents buy in 1973? Quite a bit considering that it was the year that the average male earnings first topped $100 a week (considering it's now around $1,375). Does that mean that just under $7 is the new 50c?

see stats lie, take the $1000 off the ave and that's my pension and how many of us are there (over 1,000,000 and growing)..but honestly how many people do you know making that sort of money..only the managers get that around here..average wage here is more like $500 or a little better with a heap of over time so why don't they stat all the truth

I think industries like mining tend to have a large impact on the mean income. $1300 seems quite high. I think the median income may be more indicative than the mean in this case.

yeah one or two hoity toities just blow all their figure way out of the water and makes us sound a lot better than we actually are..I know a few people that have come here and worked and then gone this place is just a total rip off..no bull try living here with everything being overinflated

Honestly some parts of the world don't know how good they have it as I live in the 3rd world australia that doesn't exist unless you live in it..how long can we go on living in denial as it's not long ago I had to travel 260 km return trip just to see the quack..and I don't live out in the boonies..seems like it though

Where did you get your information about the 1966-1968 patterns?
Also, I think there is a double headed 1969 50c piece which is of interest (aside from the obvious two heads) because the portraits are subtly different.

Lots of places over the years... many of the details are sketchy... I know that there is information out there that is different from my list, but I have consolidated from many sources and my list is the closest I think I will bet able to get without talking to someone who was there...

I haven't seen any info on this... would be interested if anyone knows any more about it.

It was an Australasian Coin and Banknote Magazine article by Ian McConelly. I can't remember the issue but I think it was as least after 2004. I think there was a bit about the Yarramula PNC too if that helps.

Looks like I might have given you a bum steer Steve: the article (which I found again) mentions the Yarramula PNC, but the double headed 50c piece is definitely the emphasis.
It's in the June 2011 issue, in the article "Myth buster or another mystery?". Here's the auction catalogue link from its last (?) sale as well (it's lot 66): http://www.noble.com.au/site/docs/c...e_83/A01.pdf

edit: Looking at some of the other auctions, there seem to be a few double headed/double tailed coins on offer: one of each 50c at this auction: http://www.noble.com.au/site/docs/c...e_82/A01.pdf
