It is not a matter of being famous, you can get personalized slab labels with large bulk submissions. I have no idea who M.L. Moser is but apparently he has the top-rated NGC Morgan registry set. I had an awesome time looking at that, thanks for sharing! That person has such an amazing collection! |

Someone on another forum asked this question and then asked NGC directly. They were told there was no minimum number of coins and they would pretty much do it for anyone. So you don't have to be famous and you don't have to do a large submission. Basically pedigrees on slabs no longer mean anything.

So this slabbed, Norweb / Jack Lee pedegreed coin would not bring an extra premium?   Edited by oih82w8

slab all the coins you can and in a hundred years when all of your collection is being traded around you will be famous

Not sure what the 2 is about, but both Norweb and Jack Lee are famous collectors. Lee had either the finest or close Morgan dollar sets. |

Yep Jack Lee's collection of Morgans was amazing. Most personalized holders are from auctions of known collections. No self respecting TPG would slab coins with a name of a famous collection/auction sale on the holder, unless absolute proof of the coin coming from that collection. So lets say I decide to sell a few of my coins. I think if I got them slabbed by NGC and entered them in the registry I would easily make the top 10 for that set. You don't think I would get more for my coins come time to sell if my registry name is on the slab?
Human nature being what it is I suspect a lot of uninformed would bid more knowing the coin came from some one with a highly ranked set..
I think even the lower grades would get but not command a premium because of those extra character on the slab..
If NGC is still around and doing this when I do sell up I suspect it will be the route I go to get the maximum return

For a coin to be famous, it needs an auction record. Provinance evidence.

I have bought coins from teletrade that had those lines...you know, so&so's horde or so&so's collection and I didn't pay any premium prices for them. I think a coin sells on its own merit and/or the TPG that slabbed it. |
