You can use a coinstar and get a ECertificate to many places online. Kind of like a gift card, with no fees. No grocery store's yet where I'm around. I usually do Amazon or Lowes.

In England bank give out money in bags - bag comes in, they stick it on the scale, if it weighs as you say, they take it, job done. You can deposit as much as you want, no one cares.

Getting coins is a very different matter, however.

Never had a bad experience with tellers or managers, but then again I have never tried to order or dump coins! I think that the
Teller/ manager should be reported to the head office/ president for providing "extremely poor customer service" etc. I think I will try to get a box or at least some rolls next time... The town I do most of my banking in has 3 banks in a half block of each other... And this is no city, it's a small toristy village! Seems that there must be one that wouldn't mind ordering a box or at least several rolls of halves for me...

1 Reason I use Coinstar is ,to make sure I dont get my same coins back from the bank.I buy mostly 50$ bags of pennies. So those are the coins poeple put in the coin boxes at the banks.I have just one local bank. The rest are a bit further out.But if I'm in town I usally get coins from different banks as well.I always try to get the customer rolled coins too.I find all kinds of goodies in those.Lots of Wheatpennies and even 1 1904 indianhead .
Most of the banktellers are pretty friendly.Just one bank told me they don't sell coins to none customers.Thought that was just stupid.

"A box of coins is heavy". That is the only slightly negative comment I've recently had.

"We get our coin from the FED," says the teller.
"HUH?" I reply.
"We get our coin from the FED."
"Then why does the truck say BRINKS?"

I agree on the advice of being careful of who you tell about collecting coins. There are many unscrupulous people around. As far as the where you dump your coins, especially if they charge you. Why would they care how many times you dump your coins. I would take my business elsewhere. As far as banks there are many who have their own machines and if you have an account there even better.

I would have to disagree with that. I certainly believe in customer service and being polite to people, but at the same time he did bring in 700 dollars worth of coins at once. Thats a big hassle for the bank and roll searching only costs them money and effort. I roll search myself for my lincon and nickel album and sometimes for silver (not much luck with that one) but I think we should remember when dumping that if we were on the other end we wouldnt appreciate that being done to us.

Im lucky in the fact my banks have automatic change machines so its not an issue but I still will bring in batches when I know I'm going by so its not obvious what I am doing and just looks like I've saved up my change. If the banks fine with it by all means dump away, but if they ask you not to or say they will only do it once I dont think thats anything you should try and get the manager fired for

Because they either have to roll them themselves or send them out to be rolled. It either costs them money or a lot of effort for something they arent making anything on. Especially if you arent a customer

Actually I think its the bank you deal with. I have banks that I go to that actually save me their junk as they call it. Halves, dollar coins (susan b's, sacawageas, golden dollars; even silver. They appreciate when you take stuff like that because they don't have to count it. I also never have had problems buying boxes of coins but I will say I never get more than 1 or 2 boxes. Now when I have checked what I want and take them to another bank that has a coin machine. I put my small stuff...quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies in the machine in lobby and my halves I usually take to the counter and they put them in their machine in the back and count them for me; and thats usually 5-6 hundred dollars. I usually take some cash out and deposit the rest in my account. Only 1 time did I have a problem and it really wasn't that much just a small inconvenience when I brought in 2500 in Presidential dollars. I was on compensation from work and had to make my house payment before I started getting my checks. They asked me to remove them from their wrappers and deposit them in the coin machine(till this day I still don't think the teller knew what she was talking about and I didn't make a big stink about it). So this is my experience in getting coins to check for my collection.

one excuse I use at banks that is super effective:

Teller: "So, what is the purpose for all of these coins?"
Me: "just my weekly poker game I run."

I have never had a negative response using this. In fact, most of the time they get excited.

I tell them not to worry about what I am doing with the coins. I don't ask about their lives, they shouldn't ask about mine :p

I actually did this once, except the manager of the bank came up to me and asked "what's with all the dimes?" Usually I'm friendly and I tell them something to leave me alone, but this time I told her, "It's private."
For some reason this ticked her off, and she asked me over and over, and I kept giving the same response. So, now I just use the poker idea. Like I said, it usually gets a more positive response when they inquire about the coins.

Now Yeo has actual cause there to go above the branch managers head. In matters of money once you say its private and it is under, what is it?, $10,000 I think a bank manager should take from that that it is in fact private and not pester you.

P.S. this would be a great time to start writing lyrics for a country music song and see how awkward you can make the manager feel. I thinking it goes someting like this: I lost my job at the coal mine, family member sick, pickup truck broke down, dog ain't doing to good either, need to cash in the only thing my deceased family member left behind to pay for other sick family members medicine etc....
