Lucky find Imohtep, were you roll searching ? I guess even with all the new high tech quality controls at the mint some nice errors still slip past. What are your other errors ? Must be something up with my tablet, it's been double posting.

Great find imohtep! I'm no expert, but it seems to me that your coins caribou partner won't be as impressive,it will have a faint image of the queen on the obverse as your coin has an incuse ghosted image of the queen on its reverse.

Hey ImohtepI analysed your 2nd picture of a clipped quarter and to me it looks more like PMD...See the picture...Of course it is only my and the programs opinion...

Wert, if you look at the first picture of the clipped quarter, directly across from the clip is a part of the rim that is messed up as well, this only happens when the coin gets clipped. I had Gatewest Coin and Stamp verify that it was a genuine error

Imohtep...I am not doubting their findings, as they (and yourself) had the coin in hand to see for themselves. I was just testing out this new program. I take it all back...Hey, very nice find.... Just for the heck of it, here is your clipped coin and the program >I use does show a true clip...Go figure...?

Actually, Imohtep, while your coin does have a weak brockage, your coin was not the first strike with the die cap. Somewhere, out there, is the first-strike brockage with the image of the obverse fully visible in mirror image....
The real value to that would be finding the die cap, and the first couple of strikes prior to your coin being struck. Yes, it can be done... but such sets are quite rare...

Thanks for the explanation SPP-Ottawa! Brockage didn't even enter my mind. That makes sense!
The clipped coins have the Blakesley effect which is the weakness directly opposite the clip. Definitely errors.

I have been contemplating getting this quarter graded and slabbed..do you guys think the error is significant enough (or worth it) to get graded and slabbed? if so..which company should I send it to?

grading would prove nothing to an error collector.

Quote: This thread has definately re-affirmed that there is more to coins than I have ever even contemplated! AWSOME!! you don't even know man..it gets even more complicated! ( circulated, uncirculated, mint set, collectors, error, mules, varieties..) there are so many types of just one coin that it is near impossible to get them all!
