I didnt imply there is anything wrong with it, I do it. I wanted to know if there is much to be made from it because I've never touched Perth Mint stuff.

Depends, Some I buy to keep, some ill sell if the price is high enough straight off the sale, I collect the famous battles of Australia and the Discover Australia Coins with the animals. then I've got a few randoms like the Ginger Meggs coin cause I loved that comic etc. others such as the Koala Opal coin I didnt have too much interest in at the start and bought purely to see what the price would do as it seemed to be the next big thing, but now it's grown on me!

as for much to be made, it all is a gamble really, but I do believe that in the short run - say 6 - 12 months, I notice that the PM coins will rise faster than the RAM Coins (only very few though, most PM products stay at issue) for example the Opal Koala is already being paid over $200 consistently and more overseas on ebay and it only came out 2 months ago for $130.

Normally for RAM coins to mark up that much it takes a few years I've noticed.

Then the Perth Mint has some real shooters that go crazy with collectors such as the Redback and the Tasmanian Tiger. Would have been lucky if you secured 5 of those when they came out! I was hoping the Opal one will do the same, it looks like its steadily increasing but who knows really.

And of course my latest purchase, the Diamond Jubilee two coin set, that is more of a half half, I am happy to keep as I have many of the Queen diamond Jubilee coins from RAM/PM etc, but with such a low mintage and a large milestone I can only assume this will rise. If it goes to a good price that is more than I can justify keeping it, I will sell it, if not I'm still happy I bought it!

Currently three on ebay, two are $50 above issue and one is auction currently with 41 bids and $6 above issue.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-QUEEN-...em20c4d2d949

make that 42 and $11 over issue. Its funny cause they aren't sold out at PM yet, I recommend, its actually quite a nice coin with selective gold plate. also I got free shipping so that was even better cause normally it's over $300 for free shipping but I ain't complaining!

Did I hear or read correctly somewhere that you have to supply your birth certificate etc to Perth Mint and only after they have verified your identity will they send stuff out. Maybe people feel its not worth the hassle and cant be ....

Thats only if you are buying bullion products, bars etc.

for obvious reasons - keeps track of who buys what for the tax man, prevents laundering from crime profits, etc.

Commemorative coins are fair game, just sign up with email address
