Fantastic cleaning job, chrsmat! I am so impressed with how it turned out. And I agree with all the other posters; now that the coin is cleaned and sealed with wax, it shouldn't deteriorate any further.

It's remarkable how well you cleaned this coin. I have a few I'm soaking, but nothing this nice yet. Most of them are pretty stubborn.

tell me about it doucet, most of mine a much more of a pain also...this one was a unusually cooperative.

here is the whole bunch I started soaking at the same time, cleaned coin above is on the left...all the rest are still in the bath and have had an additional cleaning session...progress but still not done...they're going to take a while.

Before,-After,-And-Hmmmmm..

I hope I have some nice pictures to post of them...eventually.

thanks again everyone!

Nice cleaning job. The rest of them look promising if they come as clean as the OP coin.

I've been using a similar method to clean a few coins. One of them, I went too far with a needle. You can't see the metal showing by naked eye. The scanner picked up a couple of spots of metal showing. So, I stopped cleaning it.

Yeah, I've done that also. I have an otherwise nice Constantinople commemorative with a bit of bronze showing through a scratch...uggggggggg.

I keep an eye on the dust/grime collecting on my fingers while I'm picking with a needle (using a magnifying lamp), if I see a hint of green (or whatever color the patina is) I stop immediately.

Thanks everyone!

Those look like some pretty nice uncleaned coins. Much better then some I've purchased off ebay.

These were some that I knew were going to come out pretty good, yes they are better than the average uncleaned coins I've received also.

I've had a couple of batches of coins I didn't bother taking any pictures of.
