 Im only in my 20's as well. No point waiting till you've got a mortgage and a partner to get into coin collecting. They are really common dates and probably worth 50c each at the most. |

nixnax Hate to break it to you but they both look look they have had the old vinegar dip. Common pennys now even less valued. But hay , It's only 2 pennys |

Thanks all! Haha it's ok, I figured they weren't in very good shape. It's more the history behind the coin I'm after as they're sentimental now I've been given them :) I've got a little box of other coins from other countries too from my uncles travels around the world that he gave me when I was little. However they have been sitting at the back of the wardrobe for years but never really looked into the background behind them all, so might start to find out, very interesting!

What about the World coins you mentioned? Anything interesting?
Maybe those penny's will get you started in a long career of coin collecting. Keep them for posterity.

I've just been through them and have 15 countries coins, so a little more than I thought! I'm not really sure if they are anything special, probably just your regular coins. Although I do have a wee little 1939 coin from NZ with King George VI on the back, so that was pretty cool to see such an old coin!

I you do end up getting into coins you will easily be able to own Australian coins as early as 1910. I have more recently got into roman coins. Its amazing to think you can hold and even own a fully legible 1800 year old coin for less than a $50 note.

Wow, roman coins? That's amazing! Will definitely look into it, finding it very interesting so far! Just need to brush up on my knowledge a tad lol!

Hi nixnax I have attached a picture of some of my more "colorful" pennies. As you can see, there are shades of yellow, pink, and even a "brazen" golden 1916 penny. Hmmm..dunno about that one  A nice cheap way to start looking for these colorful varieties is to examine a big "grab box" of pennies and halfpennies at your local coin shop. Thanks ADMISLSE. I have often been amazed at the different hues that the humble penny and halfpenny can have. Anything from yellowish to pink, and iridescent colors also. Unfortunately, when I was younger I made a mistake. I stored some of my pennies and halfpennies in "home-made" plastic covers. Because I spent all my money on coins, so had little left for coin albums  Over time the bronze coins developed a 'coating' which made them look dull    . This taught me to become more knowledgeable about the hobby. Something the "Coin Community Family" is helping me with . Squire |
