And it's not magnetic.

Pretty positive means I still wasn't sure, which is why I came here to ask the question. I'm obviously not as experienced as you are.
This is quite an unfriendly forum.

I'm sorry, but if this was an unfriendly forum, why did the above 5 or do people waste time to help you?

Sure looks like it came from a proof set to me. Circulation strikes and even proof-like strikes don't have that cameo contrast.
According to my Charlton guide, the Proof sets starting in 1996 were made of sterling silver for all coins except the penny. I'd say yours is one of these. Nice grab. Don't mind the naysayers.

Also, notice the thicker and squared off rims. Definitely a proof IMO.

The Queen still has elements of a what was once an ultra heavy cameo (deep cameo) finish and the rim edges are square. I concur with Pokermandude, that is a proof struck coin. Not only is it silver, but it is .925 silver. Quote: A guess based on appearance is not good enough I disagree. With the information given us, and the photo, it is not a guess. Any coin dealer out there will give you "melt" value for that coin. Good eye, and good find.

tzarmarko - people have been quite rude on two separate occasions & I hadn't even been here for 24 for hours, one being one of the people above who seemed to have edited their nasty condescending post as my knowledge of coins wasn't up to par.
I greatly appreciate everybody's input & unfortunately I let those two people had greatly influence my initial view on this forum.

You're very welcome.
There are always egos involved, especially on internet forums. People see a low post count and automatically assume you're a newbie with way less experience with coins than them. Some members of some forums are worse than others. Some see their high post count as a license to berate and ridicule others. I'll now bite my tongue on the subject.

^ Royal Silver, keepp in mind that the one sold on ebay is in uncirculated condition. Looking at the photo originally posted I would have to say that the quarter in question would go for melt value only, as it has been well circulated and has lost most/all of its luster. Either way nice find sirthriftalot, and welcome to the forum.
