Getting it graded would probably increase your price realized even though there is a cost for having it graded. You will get that cost back I am sure. Seeing here is a very similar note that sold ungraded or as we say "raw".
It fetched $270.00 [eBayItem]261021419549[/eBayItem]

Here's another listing starting out at $600.00 for two of these [eBayItem]140768136824[/eBayItem] where somebody can buy one and share the other with me because they are so nice!

That is one great find! I'm glad you got it out of circulation before it got damaged.

I am puzzled by this kind of error. Wouldn't the whole sheet be misprinted? So there's more out there, right?

Putting all those together would really be something.

Excellent find MistRaven!

I agree with TheNickelGuy, get it grade and it will be in a protective sleeve that prevent oil from finger prints, increase value than a ungraded one.

So there should be at least few more out there I hope.

Thanks Buddy and Mac I have it in a protective sleeve and plan on finding a good place to take
it for grading.

To Buddy, I agree I actually said the same thing to my Hubby, it had to happen to the entire sheet when they printed it, but what puzzles me even more is that they did not catch the error that big.

Speaking of grading Paper Notes, are the authorized dealers who can submit coins to PCGS, can they send in paper as well?

BTW, really nice notes!

MistRaven I really don't know all that much about the process used by the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, but I have been in newspaper press rooms and the paper is on rolls bigger than a car and it flies through a press that is a city-block long. At the end it gets cut and stacked. When something goes wrong, a pressman will run to stop the presses but by then hundred, if not more, pages have gone by.

At the BPE, things get printed and printed and so on. I suppose for this error to occur, somebody pulled the sheet mid-process in order to inspect it and simply put it back into the stack wrong side up. Since the rest of the process would be too fast to actually observe, nobody would notice.

I think they do random checks but it wouldn't be possible to visually inspect every sheet.

Just guessing.

I thought the same thing Buddy. Well good news is we sold it for $450.00 there was a collector near our house who had a collector's book showing pictures of all types of error notes.

It showed the value of this ours ranging from $100 to $600 depending on condition. This bill was in pretty good shape with no fold marks but the error stamps were very light and pointed to the picture and what the value is and it was just $450, he showed us a picture of one like it where the stamp marks were much darker and that particular one was worth the $650 to a collector.

Either way I think we lucked out getting that much for a dollar lol.
Thanks to all who commented. I really appreciate all your advice and knowledge. :-)

Awesome sale! Glad to hear you were able to find a buyer and get a great price on it. And that is definitely an incredible profit on a single dollar purchase.

And if you are ever in the DC or Fort Worth areas, the BEP gives free tours. You have to get there early to get a ticket for a later tour, but it is definitely worth it. I went on the tour in DC a few years ago.

They print over 900 million dollar notes each year and 95% of those are to replace existing, worn notes, so there is no way they can inspect them all, but they are supposed to have a photographical way to inspect them. I don't understand how something so obvious gets missed then?

Here are some details on how notes are printed:
