@All: I was mostly interested in errors, but yes, I was getting the Cherry Pickers Guide for varieties. I am personally more interested in error coins for my personal collection... but if I run across a few nice varieties I'm not against the idea of knowing what I've got to sell the coin. =)

Well, then I think the best error sites are posted. We also have the top error expert (Mike Diamond) as a member...and the top variety expert (Coppercoins) as well.

I imagine that Mr. Weinberg has forgotten more about errors then Mr. Diamond has ever known. The top variety expert? Nothing against Coppercoins but Wexler and Wiles are probably closer to the top of the list.

I do know Mr.Wiles but I have heard of Mr.Weinberg and recommend Mr.Wexler's site second to coppercoins.com.These experts do not wisit this site to help us Mr Diamond and Mr.Daughtrey do, and that makes them number one in my opinion.

Just because someone posts on these message boards does not make them the top expert in their field of study. To proclaim such is just foolish and shows lack of creditability. You might call them the "Resident Expert" but to say they are the "Top Expert" is just wrong, misleading and an erroneous statement. Give credit where credit is due. If the US Mint has a question about an error coin, who do they consult with? I believe you will find it is Mr. Weinberg. There is a saying up here in Maine, "If your cat has kittens in the oven you don't call them biscuits, do you?"

taclough...you have your opinion...we have ours and hijacking a thread for your own agenda doesn't show much credibility on your part either

Quote: taclough...you have your opinion...we have ours and hijacking a thread for your own agenda doesn't show much credibility on your part either Not hijacking anything, sorry to burst your bubble. The OP started a thread about "Sharing Error Sources". Some misinformation was given on who the top expert(s) were in the field of errors and varieties. If erroneous statements are not corrected some members might start believe that they are true. If Mr. Diamond or Mr. Daughtrey believe or think they are the "Top Expert(s)" in the fields of error and varieties, then let them respond and say so. Maineman 750 - As far as credibility goes, I guess some are not big enough to admit when they are wrong.

They have more class than that. Quote: Some misinformation was given on who the top expert(s) were in the field of errors and varieties. There is absolutely no reason for it. Quote: I think we need a moderator. You have one. Mr. taclough, your opinion is as valid as anyone's. However, your choices of how to express that opinion show a disregard for the civil atmosphere we enforce here at CCF. I would strongly suggest that you reconsider what constitutes an appropriate form of discourse.

They have more class than that. That is true, Mr. Diamond or Mr. Daughtrey never said that they were the "Top Experts" in the fields of errors and varieties, Maineman 750 did. Mr. Diamond and Mr. Daughtrey may be the "resident experts" on this forum for the fields mentioned, but to call them the "Top Expert(s)" in the study of errors and varieties in general is wrong and demeaning. It is just an erroneous statement. Quote: Some misinformation was given on who the top expert(s) were in the field of errors and varieties. There is absolutely no reason for it. I draw your attention to the ninth post when Maineman 750 proclaimed Mr. Diamond and Mr. Daughtrey as being the Top Expert in the fields of errors and varieties. I have not bashed anybody. Any moderator is welcome to revue my post(s).
