Quote: could do without the concave/convex shape though I kind of agree with that now after thinking about it. I like the idea but would like a normal coin two. Maybe a two coin set? Do we know for sure it will be this way or was that just being kicked around?

Quote: Hey Commems - this seems like a good next topic for you: Unusual Shaped Commemoratives!
I'll have to give that one some thought...the US hasn't issued many coins/medals in non-traditional format. I do have a few ideas however...stay tuned!

would this make this coin series the first series since the octagonal $50 gold Pan-Pac to not resemble actual circulating coin styles?

Quote: its just not so popular in Seattle, I mean, our soccer team's average attendance is twice that of the mariners. In in all fairness at the moment the seattle soccer team probably outscore the mariners on a lot of nights lol

Yup, Baseball Hall of Fame and Football Hall of Fame. We're starting a line of commems in which the surcharges will go to entities that don't need them. Coming soon... the microchip commemorative silver dollar, with surcharges going to the Intel Corporation. I'm not against the idea of a baseball or football commemorative, given their importance in society. I just think we could have had a better recipient for the surcharges. Wouldn't surcharges going to youth baseball or youth football been a more worthwhile cause?

Maybe but both do do programs with youth orgs. They arent exactly flowing with cash as they operate outside of the leagues and it is important to preserve the history of things. With the current economy money isn't exactly flowing in.
But like I said before the commem should determine where the money goes not the other way around. Dont think people are looking for a full set of disease commems lol.
An interesting side not though I do know for a fact some of the player memorabilia in cooperstown isn't what they say it is. A lot of players love their gloves and cleats and have a 2nd set ready to give to the hall if they are going to break a milestone, not all do it but there are some players that do

I also am a fan of the American pasttime BASEBALL (go Cubbies and just wait till next year) I am looking forward to added this commem to my modern commem collection. Also I am sure Football, Basketball and maybe NASCAR wont be far behind.

I have been critical of the intended beneficiary for the coin surcharges, but after seeing this, I stand corrected, and withdraw my earlier objection: http://www.coinworld.com/articles/2...ns-approved/From the article: The surcharges will be used to support the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum's educational outreach programs, including "the ongoing efforts to reach America's youth with meaningful lessons, such as the BASE (‘Be A Superior Example') program, which promotes healthy living and choosing to live and play free of performance-enhancing substances," according to a news release from the Hall of Fame. Now that seems like a better cause than what I was originally led to believe. That being the case, I'll be inclined to buy the coins if they have good designs and are more of a tribute to the game of baseball itself, rather than the Hall of Fame buiding. One commemorative I will never own is one that simply depicts a building or is dedicated solely to a building. When the inevitable Football Hall of Fame commem comes our way, I hope the surcharges go to a similar cause, such as youth football or the NFL's "Play 60" initiative. Given basketball's status as sport with American roots (maybe more so than baseball and football, which are both arguably derivatives of sports originated elsewhere), I think we'll probably get one of those too in future years. Still no opinion on who the surcharge beneficiaries should be for the "Mom" and "Apple Pie" commens.

I am a huge baseball fan and am on my way to celebrate Felix's no-hitter at tomorrow night's Mariner's game! Anyway I love the idea for this coin and the fact that it is going to support needy kids. I'll definitely be getting a few...
