They do occur in other years, but nowhere near the extent of the 2008 type. I have several coins from different years stashed somewhere, but I just can't remember where I put them. I have a vague idea that they might all be post 1999, but don't quote me on that. I can't remember where I put anything these days, and it's usually only by accident that I find anything. My biggest problem is I have way too many coins to keep track of, so I keep track of none.

I think the ebay seller's call on it being the rarest 20c variety is a bit rich - considering how many they've sold over the last couple months Reckon these will show up more, once we all start looking out for them - not much gets past a bunch of CCF noodlers hot on the case...

I think Ozcoins would have something to say about it being the rarest 20 cent variety as well given his big 66 wavy find

i posted a pic of one here on the forum somewhere about a month or so ago, right claw completely missing above the wave. i'll see if I can find the thread. Here he is the little one clawed badger I mean ornithorhynchus. My coin also has doubling on the obverse legends & Cuds on the ZA in ELIZABETH.

OK, I found them. I have 5 x 2008, and most of the foot above the wave is missing, with just 3 tiny remnants visible, and parts of the foot below the wave are also missing. 3 of the 5 also have doubling on the Obv involving the 08 of the date and ZAB of Elizabeth. I actually think that this is most likely another case of a very worn die causing the problems on both sides of the coin, so die fill might not be the correct terminology for it. I also have 1994, 96, 99, 01,02,05,07, 09 with much smaller bits of the claw missing. I'm working on the images now and hopefully I'll have them posted some time tomorrow. This is your thread Apple... http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...IC_ID=119834Almost identical to my 5 coins. Hahahah! Apple beat me to it!

Cool Nancy,Yeah I don't believe that these are as rare as the sellers is making them out to be as at the time I posted mine Nancy had 5 & Goatieman had a few too,now that more people are aware of the variety/error there will be a lot more turn up I reckon.

no, too many coins nancyc nancyc Posted - Today :8 Min ago -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I actually think that this is most likely another case of a very worn die causing the problems on both sides of the coin, so die fill might not be the correct terminology for it. This seller has transgressed sin number 2. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...IC_ID=124111Now, what should the punishment be? Do we have at least two members silly enough to start bidding hundreds, thousands, millions of dollars? That would be fun But, possible ebay might take a dim view (although they seem to nearly always ignore reports of problem sellers. Jeff

Of course it is the left foot with the missing bits. Maybe we should be saying the foot on the right.

My opinion is that it's the result of a die that was wearing out and may have been used for too long.
My initial feeling was die fill, but have changed my mind now. I doubt that it's a die variety, not considering the missing bits on the reverse occurring with extra metal (doubling?) on the obverse.

I have been looking for one of these for ages and now have finally found one. A bit of a hard life but will be a welcome addition to my odds and sods collection.
