I have now received a reply from IAG suggesting that the errors were submitted as "mint sport" and that their true source is now under investigation.

Quote: But I assume that their contracts would say that there's no unauthorised use of machinery for your own gain, and you'd probably risk getting sacked if you tried. All public servants must adhere to the Australian Public Service Code of Conduct. Part of that is "not make improper use of the employee's duties, status, power or authority, in order to gain, or seek to gain, a benefit or advantage for the employee or for any other person" I would say using mint equipment to 'fabricate' error coins is a breach of that part and would be an offence punishable with possible dismissal or demotion or fine. Its a little bit concerning that only after accepting the coins, publishing them in a catalogue and then receiving conplaints do IAG investigate them. You would like to think better of them

Here's my response to the first email I got from IAG: Thank you for your reply. Another thing to keep in mind is that on a true double strike the first strike is usually almost completely obliterated by the second strike due to the high striking pressure of a coin press. In the case of the lots in your auction this is not the case, the initial strike is still almost completely present. This suggests the "brockage" strike was applied with something with much lower pressure than a coin press. You should also be aware that there has been a seller on ebay selling these sorts of damaged coins for several months now. You can see their feedback and a link to one of their past sales here: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...backAsSellerhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/280902211538#ht_548wt_1182

I probably should'nt be showing this here as I believe there are sellers of PMD coins using this forum, they think they are flying under the radar so to speak so I won't say exactly how I did this but I will say a vice does not have enough pressure.

In good news I've heard from IAG and these lots have been withdrawn from the auction. Kudos to Paul and the team at IAG.

I thought I had finally found a trustworthy website that had reliable and consistent info. Now, if this is a common belief amongst the hardcore CCF members, how are we not-so-hardcore CCF members to know who or what info to trust? I'm shattered!

CCF has always been & will continue to be a great source of reliable information. None of the regular uses of this site would lower themselves to do this type of thing,I'm referring to blow ins that come here for info & then choose to ignore the info they have been given by knowlegable people here & still try to sell their rubbish on ebay,i won't single anyone out but it has happened in the past.

Very good result, and now no-one is going to get stung by the manufacturer of this garbage and hopefully said person will not submit any more to any Auction Houses. It pays to be vigilant.
