I was at my local Publix today getting some groceries and I always swing by the Coinstar machine. In the past I've found a few single coins: pennies, dime. I doubt I'll every surpass todays haul: 7 quarters, 1 nickel and a 1943 steel penny! One quarter was apparently assaulted with a pellet gun. Quarter dates: 1978, 1980P, 1985P, 1990D, 1995P (pellet still in there), 2003D (Maine), 2015D (N. Carolina).

Those smashed up quarters would be good to leave as tips.

After a long CoinStar dry spell, I finally snagged a few things. While walking around the grocery store this afternoon, I heard the unmistakable sound of someone dumping change into the machine. I made a point of checking the return on the way out and found four cents, three nickels, six dimes, five quarters, a Lincoln dollar and a Bermuda dime. No silver, but bring on the free money!

After a month and a half-long dryspell I hit some paydirt at the local grocery, with 2 (presumably dead) 2032 batteries, 66 cents of spendable cash and a 2002 Australian 5-cent piece.

Wow. What great finds. Hard to believe that people don't realize what they are leaving behind. Different subject but I still bend down to pick up a Lincoln lying on the ground.
