makes your wonder where it had been for the last 155 years to get that kind of damage

EVERY COIN, no matter if pristine or poor, deserves a place in our hearts. To carry it with you in your pocket - AMEN I say! You are so kind to take it into your care.

This one immediately struck me, don't ask me why.

Quote: At one time, was that a 1858 FEC? It still is but by the time Dave's done with it, it will probably be dateless

One of the first coins I ever bought was an 1858 FEC. It was about in XF condition, but was pretty cruddy looking. So what did I do? I polished the crap out of it to return it to it's glory days... I didn't know any better at the time. Seeing this one has made me decide to use that one as my pocket piece. Thanks!

Nice! I agree, one of the best designs we have! Don't loose that little bugger.

Very nice! I look forward to seeing this one again in the (not too distant) future, after she has has a change to recover from the damage.

It is my favorite penny design. Wish it had run longer than three years. And it makes me want to cry seeing those obviously purposeful gouges. I would likely take the poor thing in as well.

No Flying Eagle cent should have had the misfortune to have endured that kind of abuse, ever. At least now it will be in the possession of someone who sees past its faults and appreciates it for what it is. Ed ANA LM-3175
