Very nice coin Moe.

The reverse image of the catamount is one of my favorite images of the series ... and of course prior CCF threads document many excellent descriptions of this coin from the collectors fortunate enough to own an example.

Yours is indeed a beauty.

Wondering through the mists of time and middle-age memory if you still are in possession of a lovely 1935 MS Texas half? Or did I completely mix that up?

I suspect you are building a sneak MS commem set.

David

Nope. First one (and most likely last) of its type for me!!

I'm still slogging away at a nice Seated Liberty half dollar Collection but when a nice Commemorative Half Dollar presents itself to me, who am I to say No?

Well done Moe ... and thanks for the polite reminder of that lovely 1936-D Texas half dollar.

I am looking forward to viewing any additional classic silver commemorative that happen to come your way.

Hoping I do not overstep my welcome with the following technical analysis of this lovely Vermont ... since you wrote to share and not to be judged.

Your photos are accurate enough for me to formulate an opinion on technical grade ... so I offer the following in the spirit of a somewhat experienced silver commemorative collector supporting a valued CCF member ...

The high points on the obverse and thus first subject to wear are the cheek of Ira Allen and the hair in his (the portrait) temple area.

The high points on the reverse are the upper (left) shoulder and cheek of the catamount.

I see no breaks in luster at any of these high points ... thus this is an MS coin.

From that starting point ... just how MS is it?

The obverse fields appear to be clean ...with a few minor bag hits at 1pm and at 4pm. The obverse portrait shows evidence of numerous scattered chatter marks on the cheek/eye area with a reasonably noticeable bag hit on the eyebrow of Mr. Allen.

Note as well a noticeable bag hit on Ira Allen suit collar (directly above the R of IRA) ...

There are some mint handling issues with the reverse fields ... note in particular the rather large elongated bag hit above "RIBUS" in the lower legend.

The mid-section of the catamount shows numerous small chatter marks ... and the left foreleg exhibits a noticeable bag hit.

All said ... IMHO ... this is a gorgeous blast-white, fully lustrous MS64 example of this 28,412 net mintage classic piece of USA coinage history.

Truly hoping Moe I did not over-step where you wanted to go with this thread.

David

Are you kidding? I LOVE it!

Who doesn't want to hear a coin they bought raw, (and looks MUCH better in hand than the seller pics), would most likely grade at MS-64? That's incredibly good news and I appreciate your time looking at it and spending your time educating us all why you feel the way you do.

What you did is what's good about this Forum and your expert opinion is ALWAYS welcome!!

Thanks for sharing!

Both your Vermont and Texas are wonderful examples of their respective issues. Please keep us updated if you decide to send the Vermont in for PCGS grading.

Good luck with your continued commemorative searches!
