Welcome Marc D
I have a pocket watch that I have owned for many years. I don't know anything about it other than it is very old, 1880-1890's I believe. It also has what I have been told is a "money chain" on it that is hard to find. I prefer not to use the words rare or scarce on this thread, but would you be able to give me any info on the watch if I were to post pictures of the watch.
Rest in Peace

I'm up for it - if only for curiosity sake, ... get the picture up!

Good morning - I certainly will try to provide you with as much information on your watch as I can. You can e-mail me good pictures to allow me to identify the maker and the serial number on the movement (the mechanical parts inside). lets start by showing me pics of the outside, front and back so I can tell the case type... and we'll go from there.

The other thing about ebay I don't understand. An auction has a Buy It Now price of $10 eg: http://www.ebay.com/itm/150295871772/ yet there are 33 people 'watching' it.

What gives? I understand, if it's an Auction, and you want to see where the price goes, to gauge the market etc... but a Buy it NOW? - makes no sense to me.

(it's another 'Rare Date' with 10 available and already 116 sold - LOL)

1. He's got 19 available
2. If you don't want/need it that badly, could be waiting for a possible price drop.

I know I was looking for a 1998 $1, and I put every single listing that was even near my price range, into my watch list so I could look at them later.

Hi Marc D, Thanks for looking at my watch and any info you have. The only markings I can find are Waltham,Mass. 6978254, Pat.Pinion. The watch and chain are silver and the roman numbers I believe are gold. I have had the watch for 40 years. I was told once that the chain on the watch is a money chain and are rare as they seldom stay with the watch. In the late 1800's if they were in a saloon or hotel they could pay using the money chain. They would cut off enough links of the chain to cover there purchase as it was as good as money being silver.
Also happy to hear other CCF members would like to see it to. Here is 4 pictures to help with any info you may have. Thanks, Wireman09

Watch keeps perfect time still. Just have to wind it up with the key. Sorry Petersen for getting away from the topic of your thread.

I have done a little research about you watch, is it appropriate to post it here?

I don't mind if you post it as long as nothing sounds out of the rules. It's all up to the moderators.
After all, I still encourage posts on topic.

Petersun,
I agree, I will offer to e-mail the info since it is "off Topic" and quite lenghty.

I tend to ramble on...:)

Thanks Mark D for researching. I'm OK with you posting what you found. Post the info on your thread about Silver Dollar Reference Material. That way no one will be offended and if any other CCF members would like to hear about the watch they can go to that thread. I looking forward to hearing what you found. Thanks Mark D
