Good Day Folks - I think that coin collectors have an easier job at identifying the degree of "rarity" for any coins. Mint reports are usually accurate and each coin is dated. each modern coin is also well documented in the form of photograph right from the mint, so in the event an "error" shows up one can readily point it out.

I personally use my experience with another area of interest, namely pocket watches. Watch makers and watch companies were never really good, except for a couple, at book keeping and reporting there production numbers.

So like most on here, I find those two words well used to say the least

mint condition is a term meaning that there are no issues with the piece and its in almost near perfect condition for being well over 100 years old

That makes no sense. What does the fact that it is over 100 years old have to do with the condition? Now you say "almost near perfect condition for being well over 100 years old" ... would you describe the condition differently if it was in the exact same condition but only 6 months old?

Well since I have been selling Vintage Antique jewelry for over 10 years and sell for a top store on the side.....I have studied and read descriptions for more years...than not. I have never had a complaint...
And the conclusions are that "Mint" is used often and in the same context as I have used it. I thank you for your questions...if you have anymore questions...let me know....
Mary :)

That is too funny. You should send her this link, and tell her to read #4 adjective.

I avoid any auctions that use characters or simply ******WOW**** as part of the subject line (as per the above link ***RARE***)

I may be out on the line here, but there maybe a translation thing with the Belle province. I once bought a mp3 player that was advertised as "mint condition" - I think he even mentioned "Mint in box". It was nice, no damages what so ever, however, there were over 1600 songs on it.

To me, MINT means the same as 'brand new' or "the same as when it was minted".

To that guy it meant there were no flaws to be seen. Having been used extensively was exclusive to it's condition of MINT.

Welcome Marc D
I have a pocket watch that I have owned for many years. I don't know anything about it other than it is very old, 1880-1890's I believe. It also has what I have been told is a "money chain" on it that is hard to find. I prefer not to use the words rare or scarce on this thread, but would you be able to give me any info on the watch if I were to post pictures of the watch.
Rest in Peace

Good morning - I certainly will try to provide you with as much information on your watch as I can. You can e-mail me good pictures to allow me to identify the maker and the serial number on the movement (the mechanical parts inside). lets start by showing me pics of the outside, front and back so I can tell the case type... and we'll go from there.

The other thing about ebay I don't understand. An auction has a Buy It Now price of $10 eg: http://www.ebay.com/itm/150295871772/ yet there are 33 people 'watching' it.

What gives? I understand, if it's an Auction, and you want to see where the price goes, to gauge the market etc... but a Buy it NOW? - makes no sense to me.

(it's another 'Rare Date' with 10 available and already 116 sold - LOL)

1. He's got 19 available
2. If you don't want/need it that badly, could be waiting for a possible price drop.

I know I was looking for a 1998 $1, and I put every single listing that was even near my price range, into my watch list so I could look at them later.

Hi Marc D, Thanks for looking at my watch and any info you have. The only markings I can find are Waltham,Mass. 6978254, Pat.Pinion. The watch and chain are silver and the roman numbers I believe are gold. I have had the watch for 40 years. I was told once that the chain on the watch is a money chain and are rare as they seldom stay with the watch. In the late 1800's if they were in a saloon or hotel they could pay using the money chain. They would cut off enough links of the chain to cover there purchase as it was as good as money being silver.
Also happy to hear other CCF members would like to see it to. Here is 4 pictures to help with any info you may have. Thanks, Wireman09
