What do these descriptions make you feel? Is it more likely for you to skip these coins?
In my ebay viewing experience, I found that many valuable coins do not have the terms "Rare or Scarce" as parts of their titles whereas a die crack could give some coins the word "rare".

unless I know they're "rare and scarce" or "low mintage" for lack of better words, I will look and possibly purchase but if they're "rare 2012 pennies" or "scarce G-4 1940 silver dime" not happening

everyone is trying to make a buck. id say more than half the "rare" and "scarce" coins on ebay are far from those two words. Its buyer beware for me. If someone pays $10 for a regular "die crack" penny, then their fault for not doing proper research and good for the seller. Although, you never know, some people might find something "rare" while others do not.

personally, unless its an actual KEY DATE, or a known rare variety...i wont even look at the description

no it was not :) I don't know it was listed still (already sold it) but the "in god we trust" was stamped on the rim as oppose to below the rim!

ebay has made all coins common regardless of their grade/mintage. All you need to have on ebay is MONEY and PATIENCE and every coin imaginable will sooner or later appear on ebay!

Beef is rare and money is scarce for me.
I will list a coin as rare if it is rare. If it is a coin that is issued in available sets or common pocket change not rare or scarce at all.

in addition to those, more words used at another auction site:
"Over 100 Years Old"
"Tough To Find"
"Better Date"
"Tough Date"
"Key Date"
"Limited Edition" talking about metal bars
"Very Rare"
"Major Mint Error"
"Rare Mint Error"

I still look at and evaluate the coin to see if it has a place in my collection.

To me, its like slabbed coins, "buy the coin not the description"

Don't forget, "Mint condition for its age"

Someone please explain to me how that works.

I had to send one of them a question, I just couldn't help it..

Quote:
Can you please explain to me what "Mint condition for its age" means exactly? I've been dealing in collectibles for almost 50 years and have never related condition with age. They are completely independent of each other. Are you saying that the criteria for "Mint condition" is proportionately related to the age of the item?

These are the ones I hate seeing.... The major error penny....then he holds every one of them with his greasy fingers. I cringe every time I see it.
